Identifying and sharing best practices is one of the most important activities of Powered for Patients. Early research has already identified some excellent best practices and Powered for Patients is working to document these so they can be shared through this website and via other channels.
Powered for Patients has also demonstrated leadership in creating new best practices to enhance emergency power system resilience. These best practices include the new protocol that provides an early warning to government officials by hospitals and other critical healthcare facilities when emergency power is threatened during times of disaster. This protocol is detailed in Protecting Patients When Disaster Strikes, the Playbook Powered for Patients developed with FEMA-funding in conjunction with the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency. It is also outlined in Roadmap to Resiliency, the white paper Powered for Patients co-authored with the American Society for Healthcare Engineering in 2017. This new protocol is expected to become a national model for enhancing situational awareness of emergency power system status during disasters.
